I grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation as a kid. As I got older, I was introduced to other Star Trek franchises: Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and of course, the original Star Trek series. I fell in love with Star Trek right from the beginning. As I’ve gotten older, I have matured and my interests have changed. Nowadays I enjoy reading sci-fi, but I still love Star Trek.
Back in 2015, I ran a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session. One of the topics we touched on was what new Star Trek series people would love to see and where they would like the franchise to go. There were some questions that really surprised me and one of them was a simple question:
“So how do you feel about the other Star Trek series?”
This was in reference to the fact that there were multiple franchises within the Star Trek universe. With shows like Enterprise and the Deep Space Nine remake, Voyager, and the new Next Generation, fans had a lot to choose from. I’m a Star Trek fan at heart and I thought it would be fun to answer that question, but in all honesty, I’m not really sure how I feel about the other series.
They’re Just Cool
As I wrote about in my 2015 AMA, I really loved Star Trek: The Next Generation. The show reminded me of the original Star Trek with the idea of exploring new worlds, space travel, and the search for new life and intelligent life. I grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation as a kid and that just makes it so much more special. I don’t think I was ever a fan of the other Star Trek series, but I was familiar with them.
When the reboot hit, I wasn’t very impressed. There was nothing wrong with it. It just seemed like there was no direction. Even though I loved The Next Generation, the new reboot just felt… off. Everything about it felt off. The first few episodes looked awesome, but it felt like the show was trying to replicate what The Next Generation had done, but the production value was nowhere near what The Next Generation had.
As I watch the new series, I’ve come to realize that it’s not just me. Everyone I know seems to enjoy the new series. It’s nice to see a show that everyone enjoys and it’s also be359ba680
